Art of Animation Review: A Must Stay for Disney Animation Fans

Advertisements

The Art of Animation Resort is the perfect hotel for Disney fans of all ages, especially families. From the movie-inspired rooms to the largest pool that Disney World offers, there are plenty of reasons to consider this resort for your next stay.

The value resorts at Disney World Resort sometimes have a poor reputation due to their affordability and lack of high-end amenities. However, some resorts offer the best theming to make your Disney World vacation magical.

Types of Rooms – Art of Animation

Guests can choose between a standard room or a suite, depending on the size of their party. Of all of the Disney resorts, the Art of Animation room has some of the most Disney-inspired rooms, making it a perfect destination for people who want to spend every second of their trip surrounded by Disney magic.

The Little Mermaid Standard Rooms sleep up to 4 adults.

The Finding Nemo Family Suites sleep up to 6 adults.

The Cars Family Suites sleep up to 6 adults.

The Lion King Family Suites sleep up to 6 adults.

If you’re traveling with a smaller party, the smallest room option is The Little Mermaid room. As the name implies, these rooms are decorated from floor to ceiling with an under-the-sea design. This room has a coffee maker and mini fridge, and guests can sleep in a king-size bed or two queen beds.

These rooms offer a queen bed, a double sleeper sofa, and a double table bed. You get a kitchenette with a microwave and a small fridge for the family suites. A nice feature of these rooms is that they come with two bathrooms, making mornings before the park more manageable and faster for larger parties.

Each family suite is appropriately titled after the movie that inspired the decorations. Depending on your theme, you can expect artwork and theming inspired by the characters and setting of that film. Whether a painting of a sleeping Simba over your bed or a car wash-inspired bathroom, Disney fans will enjoy the little touches that go into any of these rooms.

Molly, All Ears, Tours the Art of Animation Resort

Art of Animation Amenities

The Art of Animation resort offers complimentary wifi, parking, and housekeeping service. Laundry rooms are available near the pools and can be used for a small fee. Laundry detergent is also for sale in vending machines in each laundry room. You can even sign up for text alerts to get notified as soon as your laundry is done rather than waiting for your cycle to finish.

Activities and Recreation

This resort offers three different pools for guests. The Big Blue Pool is themed after Finding Nemo and is the largest pool on Disney property. You can relax in the water with larger-than-life floating jellyfish in this 308,527-gallon-sized pool. The Schoolyard Sprayground is available for little ones who want to play in the water but may still need to be ready to jump into the pool.

This pool is near The Drop Off Pool Bar, so you can grab a drink or small snack without heading to the food court.

For fans of Cars, the Cozy Cone Pool is another option. This pool is inspired by the Cozy Cone Motel and is surrounded by large traffic cone cabanas for families to get shade while enjoying a day by the water.

The Flippin’ Fin Pool is also a perfect option for Little Mermaid fans. Families can swim in the pool while a large Ariel structure smiles down at them with her friend Flounder.

Transportation to the Parks, Disney Springs

One of the best features of this resort is the access to the Disney Skyliner. Guests can take a gondola to both Epcot and Hollywood Studios. For guests afraid of heights, it is worth noting that there are only buses to these two parks if the Skyliner is closed due to rain or other inclement weather.

If visiting Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Disney Springs, or the Disney water parks, guests can take a complimentary bus to and from the resorts.

Dining options

This hotel only offers quick-service options, but fortunately, other hotels are nearby if you’d like something a little more formal.

The Drop-Off Pool Bar

This bar is located near the Big Blue Pool. Guests can enjoy featured cocktails such as the Big Blue Ocean or the Seafoam Refresher. Mixed drinks, frozen beverages, wine, and beer are also available. For those who don’t drink, there are fun mocktails as well. You can also get a Mickey Premium Bar to enjoy on a hot day. For a quick lunch, sandwiches and a Greek salad are also available.

Landscape of Flavors

This food court is perfect for families who want a quick breakfast before going to the parks or enjoy lunch together without leaving the hotel. Guests can choose from character-shaped waffles or a bacon, egg, and cheese bagel in the morning.

Braised beef, tandoori chicken, and a variety of burgers are just a handful of options for lunch and dinner. You can also order a large pizza for your family or grab something simple like chicken strips, macaroni, and cheese.

The Mermaid Tail Cupcake is a must-try treat to order if you’re craving something sweet. Desserts are available for those with a sweet tooth. Seasonal meals and desserts are also available depending on the time of year you’re visiting.

Surrounding Hotel Dining Options

If you want something other than Landscape of Flavors, you can walk to Pop Century to check out their food court.

The Disney Skyliner can also take you to the Riviera or Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort. Both of these hotels offer table-service meals and different quick-service options.

Art of Animation Overall Thoughts

While there are several luxury resorts on Disney World property to choose from, the Art of Animation Hotel is worth checking out for fans who want to truly immerse themselves in the Disney experience.

Does Disney World have anything Encanto?

Advertisements

On February 9th, 2023, visitors to EPCOT via The International Gateway entrance of the park happened upon an extraordinary sight. Mirabel from the fantastical and magical Madrigal family was seen laughing and taking photos. Enchanting all who were in her presence. Though we were surprised by the best way to get a glimpse of the Encanto star. Mirabel hasn’t been seen out and walking around among park-goers since that day last week.

Mirabel in Magic Kingdom Parade

Previously we had only seen her in the Adventure Friends Cavalcade in Magic Kingdom. Where you can still spot her from time to time. There are rumors that she will be given a place in Animal Kingdom. We will have to wait and see what is in store for a more consistent meet-and-greet schedule.

Encanto Merchandise at Disney World

Where there is a great movie, there is even better merchandise! In shops all over Animal Kingdom, you can find play sets with figures of the Madrigal family, Mirabel, and Isabella plush dolls, and an adorable replica of the stuffed jaguar that Antonio was gifted at the beginning of the movie by his favorite cousin. Shirts with the entire family, including Bruno and Abuela, can be found throughout the resorts and parks.

Shop Disney Encanto Merchandise

If a trip to Walt Disney Word or Colombia isn’t in your plans for this year, fear not! You can have your miracle delivered to your door from the ShopDisney.com website. There you can find enough entertainment to last till your next vacation! From clothes for the kids, décor for the home, and even Mirabel’s accordion, there is something even more special for young people. There are Minnie Mouse Ears with Mirabel’s signature skirt as inspiration, the satin blue ears embroidered with florals, and the adorable pink butterfly on the front and back of the padded ears. ‘Magic Awaits You’ is beautifully embroidered on the side of the headband. Still, magic can also be seen in the brilliant Loungefly Casita mini backpack! The bright colors of the bag will always remind you of the enchanting movie it represents.

Dress up as Mirabel or Isabella

Suppose your young royal can’t stop talking about Tio Bruno, and they want to dress the part of a Madrigal Sister. In that case, you may want to check out the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. Ages 3 to 12 can request the Disney ‘Encanto’ Package, giving you a choice between Mirabel’s classic look or Isabella’s purple flutter gown to compliment the traditional hair and makeup that the experience is known for.

Encanto Snacks at EPCOT

If dressing up doesn’t get you in the spirit, you should head to EPCOT for a taste of Colombia at Vibrante & Vivido: Encanto Cocina. This snack kiosk is exclusive to the EPCOT International Festival of the Arts, but time is running out! The annual festival lasts until February 20th, 2023. If you want a taste of the Encanto paradise, find it via the My Disney Experience App. This is the second year an Encanto-themed booth has graced the festival, and its popularity keeps growing! Though the festival is ending soon, there is hope that the Flower and Garden Festival will continue to delight EPCOT guests with more food that even Julieta would be proud of.

The Magic of Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort

Advertisements

New York inspired Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort. It gets its name from Saratoga Springs, known for its famous horse racing. Throughout the Victorian-style resort, you’ll see horse-inspired decor, making this a perfect stay for horse-loving guests.

As you step into the lobby, appropriately referred to as the Carriage House, you’ll be greeted by beautiful portraits of famous Disney horses, such as Maximus from Tangled and baby Pegasus from Hercules.

This deluxe villa resort is unique because it is close to Disney Springs rather than any of the theme parks. While this means you can expect a slightly longer bus or car ride to the parks, it does make it perfect for a quiet and relaxing stay at the Walt Disney World Resort.

Types of Rooms

Guests can choose from several rooms and villas, depending on their party’s size.

Deluxe studios that sleep up to 4 adults.

Treehouse Villas that sleep up to 9 adults.

1-bedroom villas that sleep up to 5 adults.

2-bedroom villas that sleep up to 9 adults.

3-bedroom grand villas that sleep up to 12 adults.

The deluxe studios offer a queen bed, along with a pull-down bed. While they don’t have a full kitchen, guests can enjoy a toaster, microwave, and mini-fridge.

On the other hand, the villas all offer fully equipped kitchens for families. Guests can also enjoy a whirlpool tub to soak in on their days away from the park.

The Treehouse Villas offer the same amenities as the standard villas, only they are nestled in the woodlands and elevated about ten feet above ground level to provide you with gorgeous views of the trees and Sassagoula River.

Quincy, All Ears, review of Saratoga Springs

Saratoga Springs Amenities

No matter which room you stay in, guests can enjoy numerous amenities such as complimentary parking and Wi-fi. Laundry services are also available for those staying in a studio without a washer and dryer.

Activities and Recreation

Saratoga Springs offers five different pools for guests to enjoy. While these pools are all located in other areas of the resort to avoid guests having to walk for a swim, guests at Saratoga Springs can take advantage of any pool on the property, regardless of where their room is.

At the High Rock Spring Pool, guests can relax to the sound of rushing waterfalls or take a plunge on the 128-foot-long slide.

The Paddock Pool has an even longer slide at 146 feet, along with two smaller slides for little ones, making this resort perfect for families who want to spend their rest days from the parks at the pool. Guests at the Paddock Pool can also enjoy a soak in a horseshoe-shaped whirlpool spa.

Three other leisure pools are located throughout the resort near the Treehouse Villas, Congress Park, and The Grandstand. These pools have their own whirlpool spa, a grilling area, and a playground.

Saratoga Springs is also located next to the Lake Buena Vista Golf Course for guests who would prefer to stay dry. Enjoy views of pine forests and beautiful lakes as you play through this 18-hole course.

Guests can also rent a surrey bike! These fun bikes are built for 2 or 4 guests and can be rented from Horsing Around Rentals.

Other on-property recreation activities include a campfire, movies under the stars, tennis courts, basketball courts, and an arcade.

The Spa at Saratoga Springs Resort

For those looking to relax genuinely, you can book various massage and facial treatments at Senses. This spa is inspired by the mineral springs of New York and offers a whirlpool, heated loungers, a steam room, and a relaxation room.

Whether you’re booking a Citrus Grove Signature Facial or a Warm Stone Massage, Senses is a perfect way to spend a day after a week of enjoying walking around the theme parks.

Transportation to the Parks, Disney Springs

Bus stops are located throughout the resort to take guests to any of the theme parks.

One of the highlights of this resort is that it is within walking distance of Disney Springs! Disney Springs is only about a ten-minute walk away if you’re looking for a quick shopping trip or a last-minute meal. This is one of the best selling points of this resort; who wouldn’t want to be a short walk away from live music and some of the best restaurants that Disney offers?

Guests can also take a complimentary boat ride over to Disney Springs.

Saratoga Springs Dining options

Even though Disney Springs is only a short walk away for those looking for a delicious dinner, guests who would prefer to stay on the property can choose from various restaurants during their stay at Saratoga Springs.

The Turf Club Bar and Grill

You’ll feel like you’ve just stepped into a racetrack clubhouse at The Turf Club Bar and Grill. This restaurant is next to the Lake Buena Vista Golf Course clubhouse, making it a perfect spot for dinner after a round of golf.

The Turf Club Lounge

For a less formal setting or for guests looking to enjoy a drink, you can order from the lounge inside the Turf Club Bar and Grill. While the food menu is more limited than the actual restaurant, there are plenty of cocktails, beers, and wines to choose from as non-alcoholic selections.

The Artist’s Palette

This quick-service dining is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Whether you want classic Mickey waffles or lemon-tarragon roasted chicken with potatoes, The Artist’s Palette is perfect for families looking to grab a quick meal before heading into the parks.

The Paddock Grill

As mentioned above, the Paddock Grill is located near the Paddock Pool. Still, you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, or dinner, even if you’re not planning on taking a dip in the pool. Enjoy selections such as a breakfast quiche in the morning or a fried chicken sandwich later in the day. This is also the perfect place to grab a Nestlé Mickey’s Premium Ice Cream Bar without needing to go into the parks.

On the Rocks

On The Rocks does not have any food offerings, but this bar is perfect for guests looking for a refreshing drink by the pool. You can choose from a variety of alcoholic beverages, as well as a few non-alcoholic drinks such as smoothies and lemonade.

Backstretch Pool Bar

This poolside bar operates seasonally, so it may only sometimes be open. However, when it is, you can get some delicious buffalo chicken nachos or a sweet Dole Whip to enjoy while relaxing by the water.

Chip’ n Dale’s Cafe

This outdoor quick-service counter can be found behind the lobby building and is perfect for anyone looking for a quick snack. You can get a breakfast sandwich, an all-beef hotdog, or various deli sandwiches.

Can You Meet Raya at Disney World?

Advertisements

Kumandra might be closer than we think! Raya made her Walt Disney World debut in November of 2022 in the “Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade” at Magic Kingdom! Raya replaced Moana on one of the main floats that she now shares with Merida, Elena, Mulan, and Pocahontas. This makes for quite a sight as we see some of Disney’s most courageous characters during this spectacle. The Cavalcade typically runs at 5:10PM or 6:25PM. Still, it is best to check the My Disney Experience app for the most up-to-date times for the shows. They are always subject to change.

Raya Merchandise at Disney World

You are in luck if you want to hit the parks dressed in Raya merchandise! From her shoes to her Iconic hat, you can find the complete set at the World of Disney (Disney Springs) and some shops throughout Disney’s Animal Kingdom. You can also find plushies and t-shirts with other characters in almost every park, such as Sisu and Tuk Tuk.

Future Raya Meet and Greet

While we may still need to meet Raya in a meet and greet, many locations would be perfect if the parks decided to do it in the future. In 2021, when Raya and the Last Dragon was released, Animal Kingdom hosted a massive sand sculpture under a pavilion near the Flame Tree Barbeque. The Animation Experience at Rafiki’s Planet Watch even hosted a lesson on drawing Tuk Tuk. The animations are currently limited to Timon (The Lion King) and Chief Bogo (Zootopia).

Other Disney Location Sightings

Raya has been spotted in Disneyland locations in Shanghai and California for in-person meet and greets. Still, she has only appeared in the Cavalcade for Walt Disney World so far. Disney officials have not announced whether Raya will get an official Ceremony as Merida did back in 2013 and Elsa and Anna in 2020 via a virtual coronation ceremony, but I am hoping they will! As part of 2022’s World Princess Week, Raya was named as part of the Official Disney Princess Lineup.
