4 Pet-Friendly Disney World Resorts You Didn’t Know About: FAQ Answered

Advertisements

If your pets feel more like family, it can be tough to enjoy your vacation without them. Luckily, thanks to Disney World’s new pet program, you don’t ever have to spend another Disney vacation away from your furry friends.

Because Disney is all about families, their pet program is specifically designed with your fur babies in mind.

Now, you can enjoy your vacation without the guilt of leaving your pets behind.

In this brief guide we break down which Disney World Resorts cater to your pooch and answer all your frequently asked questions.

So, without further ado, let’s dig in!

1. Disney’s Yacht Club Resort

Home to the best pools on Disney property, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort has all the amenities a pampered pooch could ask for. While pet-friendly rooms add an additional fee of $75 per dog (up to two dogs allowed), it’s a great way to celebrate your furry friend.

Your dog will love the New England Yacht Club vibe as they receive Pluto’s Welcome Kit completed with a collection of fun doggy gifts.  With certain floors designated for pet-friendly guests, your pooch will feel right at home — and may even make a friend or two.

Each room has pet-friendly sections specifically designed for your pooch to give them all the comforts of home. Not only that, but they also have pet-friendly green spaces where your dog can enjoy time outside.

2. Disney Port Orleans Resort – Riverside

If your vacation vibe is less yacht club and more Bourbon Street, you’ll love Disney Port Orleans Resort – Riverside. It has all the amenities to cater to your southern flare.

With pools inspired by Tom Sawyer, horse-drawn carriage excursions, movies under the stars, campfires on the Bayou, bike rentals, running paths, and more, your family will never run out of ways to have fun.

For only $50 a night extra, your furry family member will love the opportunity to join in on the fun with pet-friendly areas located around the resort.

3. Disney’s Art of Animation Resort

Earning a Traveler’s Choice Award from Tripadvisor in 2021, this resort boasts the largest pool on Disney campus! While your pup won’t be able to join in on the aquatic activities, they will love feeling right at home in their pet-friendly hotel room.

Another amenity that makes this resort special is its Skyliner transportation. High-flying gondolas provide breathtaking birds-eye views as you travel to EPCOT or Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Your pup will love the large family suites with room for six guests! Your dog will never lack running room and adventure while indoors. An extra fee of $50 per night is required for pet-friendly lodging.

4. Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground

With over 750 acres of forest, your rugged family of adventurers will love all the best that the outdoors has to offer. Meanwhile, your pup will love the outdoor oasis that comes with staying at the only resort on Disney’s campus that is specifically designed for the adventurer at heart.

The outdoor recreational activities are virtually endless from pony rides, fishing, and kayak and canoe rentals to biking, basketball, and playgrounds. It’s fun for the whole family — pup included!

Pet-friendly lodging starts at $50 per night, per dog (up to 2 dogs).

Top 5 Pools at Disney World for Kids

Advertisements

If you’ve ever traveled to Disney World with young children then you know the importance of booking a resort with the perfect pool.

For some families, the pool is just as important as the parks themselves. So if your children count down the seconds to when they can go back to the hotel and swim, this article is for you!

To help you with your Disney World vacation planning, we created a list of the top five best pools Disney World Resorts offer. Let’s dive in!

5. Doubloon Lagoon

Located at the Port Orleans French Quarter Resort, Doubloon Lagoon is the perfect pool for young children. Your kids will love all 51 feet of the SerpentDragonSnake slide that leads down to a large pool with a band of jazz-playing alligators. It’s a great place to steal some photo opportunities.

Another great feature at Doubloon Lagoon is their splash pad. Since not all Disney pools have a splash zone (yet), it’s an excellent place for your littles who love the water but aren’t ready to swim yet.

For parents, the Mardi Grogs pool bar offers a nice variety of drinks, so you can sit back and sip your cares away while your kids play.

4. The Lost City of Cibola Pool

Your family will want to strap in for an adventure when they visit The Lost City of Cibola Pool, located at Coronado Springs Resort. The Mayan-themed pool boasts a giant pyramid, elaborate Myan ruins, and a 123-foot water slide.

Other great amenities include a kiddie pool, Iguana arcade, and a play area for kids. Parents will enjoy the siesta bar, white sand volleyball courts, and Disney’s largest hot tub. With a capacity of 22, there’s plenty of room to soak away those sore park-hopping muscles.

3. Lava Pool

For your Moana-loving brood, the Polynesian Resort offers a Hawaiian-themed pool with a volcano, waterfalls, a tiki-themed splash area, and an awesome volcano-traversing 142-foot slide! It’s the perfect spot for insta-worthy photos!

Other amenities include an infinity-edge hot tub, nearby beach areas, and a gorgeous view of Seven Seas Lagoon. It’s safe to say that Lava Pool has the best views of any pool on the Disney campus.

Mom and Dad can enjoy drinks at the Barefoot Pool Bar, and the whole family will love the Dole Whips at Pineapple Lanai. The Lava Pool offers fun in and outside of the pool.

2. Big Blue Pool

Your Nemo-loving youngsters will love Big Blue Pool, located at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort. As the largest pool on Disney property, it is an ocean-loving oasis for kids of any age.

Some unique features available at Big Blue pool are the large splash zone for young swimmers, a playground area for kids, and giant set pieces inspired by Finding Nemo.

Parents will love the Drop-Off Pool Bar that boasts spiked Dole whips and smoothies with rum. It’s also the perfect place to grab snacks and drinks for hungry little swimmers.

Swimmers young and old will love listening to music as they swim underwater. For a truly magical swimming experience, you can’t beat Big Blue Pool.

1. Stormalong Bay

Finally, we come to the pinnacle of all pools on Disney World properties — Stormalong Bay. Boasting three acres of aquatic fun, it’s a swimmer’s paradise.

From their sand-bottomed pool to their lazy river — this resort has it all. Kids will love sliding down the 230-foot life-like shipwrecked water slide. It’s the largest water slide at any Disney resort. Meanwhile, parents will enjoy the elevated tanning deck and choice of three different whirlpool spas.

If that wasn’t enough, there’s also a quiet and secluded kiddie pool just behind the shipwreck slide for young swimmers. Parents and children will find solace in the beach-like sand-bottomed pool with tons of space for playing in the sand and building sandcastles.

Hurricane Hannah’s Waterside Bar and Grill is the perfect spot to wind down. Their small, yet mighty menu of tasty food is the perfect respite after a long day of water adventures.

Avoid These Mistakes at Disney World

Advertisements

Nothing ruins your perfect trip to Disney World like making a big mistake before you even get there! But the good news is that you can prevent that from happening, as long as you know what not to do. In this article, we will be going over the worst mistakes people make before visiting Disney World. And to make sure we captured the best tips; we got these answers from frequent Disney World visitors.

Over Planning

The first thing people mistakenly do is over-planning. It is one of the most often things mentioned and its one of the worst mistakes that you can make. Overplanning can cause issues because it can create unrealistic expectations of what all you can get done.

However, there are some things you should absolutely plan. Those would include hotel reservations, park tickets, park reservations, dining, and character meet and greets. You’ll want to have a general idea of what you want to get done each day but being too rigid will only create unnecessary stress.

One of our best tips is to ask each member of your group, what are your 2 to 3 rides per park that you really want to do? Make sure you have those on the list but make sure to build in some flex time for snacks, meals, rests, or just staying in a land you really like a little longer.

An Example of a Magic Kingdom Park Day:

  • Breakfast at Resort
  • Magic Kingdom Park Reservation
  • Genie + Reservations start at 7am
  • Bus to MK at 8am
    • Must Do Rides
      • Peter Pan
      • Space Mountain
      • Haunted Mansion
      • Big Thunder Mountain
      • Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
  • Lunch – Quick Service
  • Character Meet & Greet
    • Mickey Mouse – Town Square Theatre
  • Dinner – Crystal Palace 7pm Reservation

This outline will help to make sure you stay focused on the must do’s and arrive to your dining reservations, but it also allows flexibility throughout the day. Ex. You just got off Big Thunder Mountain and your family wants to explore Tom Sawyer Island. You can fit that in without any added stress.

So, while it may be very tempting, please fight the urge to over plan. No matter how much time you spend on the plan, once you arrive in the park things always change.

Pop Art at EPCOT

Under Planning

While over planning has its downsides, under planning may be even worse. There have been a lot of changes at Walt Disney World over the last few years and some of these will ruin a trip if you don’t plan.

As an example, during the pandemic, park reservations were implemented. Now, it’s not enough to buy a ticket and show up at Magic Kingdom. You must make a park reservation for the day that you will be at Magic Kingdom. Disney World is also very strict about this and there have been people turned away at the park of their choice and now they have to start their day at EPCOT, Animal Kingdom, or Hollywood Studios. I’m sure you can understand the frustration of not planning or being aware of this requirement.

So, whether you haven’t been to Disney World in a few years or have never been, there are a few topics you should be aware of before going. We recommend watching some YouTube videos to quickly understand the process.

  • Park Reservations
  • Genie+
  • Individual Lightning Lane Selections
  • Dining Mobile Orders
  • Dining Reservations

Wearing New Shoes

If you have bought new shoes, you will soon realize that was a big mistake. This is a safety announcement just for your feet.

While going on a Disney trip, you might feel compelled to get new shoes, just make sure you break those shoes in. And a pro tip is to carry your most comfortable shoes with you. It’s also a good idea to bring an extra pair of shoes with you just in case the first pair gets soaked while in the rain.

It’s not unusual to walk 20K plus steps during a day. This is not the time to get blisters from new shoes. You’ll thank us later!

Not Preparing for the Long Walks

Depending on your current level of activity, you may want to start daily walks now to prep for the amount of walking on your Disney World Vacation. In our experience, if you currently get around 10K steps a day, you shouldn’t have any issue on the trip. You still may be sore by the end but you’ll be fine most days.

Depending on the length of your stay, you’ll also want to build in non-park days that are great to get off your feet and relax.

Not Researching Transportation Options

First-timers don’t understand how big Walt Disney is and how long it takes to go from place to place.  Even if you have been to Disney world there are changes on any given day that can come up. Ex. The Skyliner is down but you need to get back to The Boardwalk. How would you get there? There are actually a few options; bus, friendship boat, walk, or Uber. Most of the theme parks and resorts will have several transportation options, so it’s important to understand those. If ever in doubt, just ask a cast member on the way out.

Prepare for Unpredictable Weather

Florida weather can be unpredictable no matter when you go. It’s always a good idea to plan for rain, but have you prepared for colder weather?

If you’re going between October and February, it’s a good idea to throw a lightweight jacket or sweater in your suitcase. Unless, you want a sneaky way to buy a $70 Spirit Jersey!

Unrealistic Expectations

“Don’t have unrealistic expectations, because a lot of magic is in those little moments”.

Make sure to prepare yourself so that changes in your plan don’t ruin your trip. Doing this will make things more flexible for you and you can enjoy the little things and have a great time. No matter how long your stay is, you’ll never get to do everything you have planned. The best mindset is to take the day as it comes and make the best of it.

Best CrossFit Gyms at Disney World

Looking to get in a WOD while at the Most Magical Place on Earth? There are some really good CrossFit gyms that cater to Walt Disney World Resort guests.  Even better, each one of the gyms listed will provide a variety of options to attend classes, whether that’s a day, week, or multiple session pass.

So even though you may get in 20k steps in a day while at the parks, nothing beats a Workout of the Day. It’s a great way to start the day or fill in a non-park day.
